I’m talking fiction, fantasy, science fiction, crazy creative things that excite your mind again or inspire you on their own. That could be biographies, memoirs, children’s books. They could spur a new passion within you. Watch stuff, like documentaries that have caused controversies and people to get up in the streets (like that new one on Netflix, Making a Murderer). I’m 63, I live alone, never been married, had children. I was my mother’s carer for a (dreadful) period, resulting in a nervous breakdown about 20 years ago. I tried to rebuild my life, and largely succeeded, only for it all to go pear-shaped again in my 50’s when I was made redundant from a good job, and was unable to get another.

I am living in a very stressful house..

I am Asian, I want to make money and move out but my parents are putting all this pressure on me. I...

Zypher69- I can relate to you. Although you have a very good background in comparison to mine (dropped out of college, did hardcore drugs until I was 23). I'm bisexual and depressed. I know that recurrent life-long depression is something that constantly lingers. I'd say give meds a try, but that's such a bandaid to cover a third-degree burn.

I find that the best way to get out of a deep funk of depression is to communicate with others you respect even if the conversation may seem ridiculous.

Confusion

Hello Zypher. Seems like you are going through a tough time in your own mind, i can respect that when you feel this bad in can ruin your perspective on things, hence make you not interested in wanting to work.

Thanks for letting us know how it's going for you. As for the new job you applied for, a few suggestions for you to push yourself foreward regarding the job. I presume this may be a management or similar type of job. One of the most effective things you do is send a handwritten thank you note for the interview.

Confusion

Hello Zypher, how are you today? you seemed to be quite happy last time, i hope that has continued!

Welcome, Z. Ha ha, no, of course we don't think you are depressed because you are gay! You are in a tough spot waiting for a job to come thru. NOthing but an offer IS an offer. I have been where you are many times, hearing all kinds of things that got my hopes up, but it was all hot air. When an offer came, I went.

cosmicfaerie

Hi Zypher. Let me add my welcome with everyone else. I only kinda browsed past the first couple of posts, but I did read your initial posts, and well, you're not alone. When all else fails, I try coming here to see if I can rationalize my way out of my depressing mood.

I am curious as to your definition of “living for something.” Generally, I find that living for one thing only, whether it’s myself or a partner, is not really living. It’s confining myself to a limited scope of experience. A person is a work-in-progress, and who we are and what we want are processes too. The language we use to de…
