May 07, 2014 · Tennifer refers tonal process to harden the metal. Glock then applies whatever the finish is onto the slide after its been treated. Also, I'm not sure they even use Tennifer any more. Jan 01, 2014 · Glock is using nitration on the slide. It has a Rockwell hardness of 68. 70 is as far as the scale goes. Tenifer is 64. In Austria the military shows the troops how to sharpen their knife on the slide. It's that hard. Both Tenifer and Melonite are "brand names" for a nitration process. Not much has really changed.

Feb 04, 2014 · Meloniting, gas nitriding, salt bath carburizing (sp) and Tenifer are all close to the same process and harden the metal. The final cosmetic finish is not from the meloniting. Same reason a Glock can have a ton of holster wear and still not rust. The hardening is still there providing the corrosion resistance.

Nov 07, 2016 · Glock slides are machined from bar stock, though I don't recall if it's a custom extrusion or standard stock. I expect it's an extrusion to a near-net size, given their quantities. Having their own mill run would also give them control over initial heat treatments as well.
