What is heat treatment of steel?
This heat treatment process carried out for steel parts which have been already hardened, in order to reduce bitterness and unequal stress develop as a result of hardening. This process reduces brittleness and hardness but improves the tensile strength of Steel. It increases the toughness of Steel at the expenses of loss of some hardness.

Forging means hammering/pressing/rolling a piece (might be hot or cold) to achieve desired shape, strength required for specific application. Forging methods refines grain structure, develops inherent strength giving characteristics, improves physical properties and produces structural uniformity free from hidden internal defects.

Interesting. Wich would be the best HT for Stainless Steel 304L/316L fittings? Wall thikness from 3 up to 6mm. Water well application. Thanks
KPS Forge (India) Pvt Ltd
Hi Bruno, HT for SS316L/SS304L is Solution Annealing. Soaking would be one hour since WT is 3-6 mm only. For more details/ assistance, please feel free to ask our technical team at [email protected]

In my experience heat treatment (ht) is a 'grid lock' in the production line as time is money.... Too often clients push the early schedule beyond the specified quality and safety requirements for the product so, then they complain why it fails when they know that the schedule is impossible to meet and turn a blind eye and blame the supplier 😳
KPS Forge (India) Pvt Ltd
Hi Garry, Agreed with your statement but it's not that much true since HT requires 1-2 days only. We can't say it's customer mistake since he has not asked to bypass any process. It's supplier responsibility to consider Heat Treatment as essential process as Forging. When we understand this point, there would be no failures. Thanks,
KPS Forge (India) Pvt Ltd
Right Mr. Johnson. Heat Treatment requires additional cost which some of companies ignore just to sustain in market and making their product cheaper for their client. They compromise with quality without taking care of its adverse effects.
Why is heat treatment used in forged metal?
Heat treatment is carried out for releasing the internal stresses arising in the metal during forging and cooling of work piece. It is used for equalizing the granular structure of the forged metal and improving the various mechanical properties. Generally forged parts are annealed, normalized and tempered to obtain the desired results.
What are the safety precautions for forging?
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS. Some safety precautions generally followed while working in forging shop are given as under. 1. Always avoid the use of damaged hammers. 2. Never strike a hardened surface with a hardened tool. 3. No person should be allowed to stand in line with the flying objects. 4.

Why do forgings crack?
In addition, due to poor forging process or improper operation, such as overheating, overburning or too low final forging temperature and too fast cooling rate after forging etc., the forgings may also produce cracks.
How are forging cracks formed?
Forging cracks are generally formed at high temperatures when forging is deformed because the crack expands and comes into contact with air, so when observed under a 100X or 500X microscope, the crack is filled with oxide and the sides are decarburized.
Is forging a duty?
Therefore, forging and forging raw materials within a certain defect is duty. Large castings and forgings are often directly from the forging of steel ingots to begin with, there must be a large number of internal steel ingots smelting casting defects. Obviously, a reasonable forging, all of these “defects” can be forged together.
