New Directions - From the view of an intern

I worked as an intern at New Directions for a period of 8 months in 2017. First and foremost, let me begin by saying how great and supportive the administrative staff was. When starting an internship or job in this field, getting your paperwork in order while building your skills as a clinician is vital.

Good place to learn

Excellent clinical supervision and support staff, well organized, great clients.

Good for experience not for a paycheck

Good supervision and support, good place to learn and practice psychotherapy, organized and stable staff. Great patients. Gain needed supervised hours. Really great people and supervisors.

Former Intern & fee for service clinician

The staff is warm and supportive. I had wonderful supervision that was centered around enhancing my strengths as a clinician. I was able to come in, see my clients and do my notes and treatment plans without drama. When seeking advice from more seasoned clinicians, everybody went above and beyond in assisting me as best they could.

A hard job working for terrible people

I always felt like I was doing something important, whether or not the clients appreciated it.

New Directions is just that- A New Direction of Professional Growth

I recently worked at ND for the past 8 months, fee for service PT. I am fairly seasoned in this field and know how daunting it can be to find an Agency where you are supported. ND is that place where u get supported and rewarded.

A great place to gain skills

Great supervision and friendly solid staff. No drama, you can come in, see your clients, do your documentation which is now onilne and leave. LMSWs can work towards their LCSW and really learn a lot in a supportive environment. Opportunity to practice and learn at the same time with a diverse client population.

What is the second step in treatment?

The second step at most treatment centers is to begin therapy, either in groups or individually. Most Brooklyn treatment centers for alcohol or drug abuse emphasize this step as the beginning of the road to recovery. Successful treatment also includes a plan for when you leave your treatment center.

What is the mission of START?

Mission: START Mission. To provide the highest quality of compassionate, comprehensive, evidence-based healthcare and social services; education of the public concerning maintenance of healthy lifestyles; and cutting-edge behavioral, biomedical and healthcare services research.

What is the right way to treat people?

The moniker "the right way to treat people" are empty words. Administration and management are a joke. If you need to pay your bills until you find what you are really looking then take the job. Even if you take the job...keep looking. This place operates without ethics and integrity.

Why is the work environment toxic?

The work environment is toxic, management cares more about quantity than quality in services rendered. The case loads are horrendous because the clinics are short handed. Management drives good employees to find other employment, employess feel like they have to fear for their jobs

What is an organization on the rise?

An organization on the rise great leadership in place securing a bright future ... a strong commitment to patient care where the mission statement really rings true "the right way to treat people " strongly would recommend joining this organization they are heading in the right direction !!!

No support from management

Clinicians are not valued - and the Regional Director tell you to your face that you are not essential. Treated doctors/prescribers better than other staff. They did a lot of sneaky stuff. One day you know who to contact about something, the next day they are gone but you're never notified of that or who would be taking their place.#N#Horrible!

Love the other employees

High turn over and burn out rate. Administration seem to have favorites. Caseloads are high which make it impossible to give the patients what they need. Programmatically change is always a constant. Leave work most days with the realization that something didn't get done and paperwork will have to wait.

Good luck having any equity amongst staff

Management is awful, incompetent, and not willing to accommodate. I work 2 jobs and they are trying to force me into part time, even though this is my full time job. Lunch breaks? Forget it. The dont staff properly for employees to take breaks.

Great Place!

Great place to work! Love my coworkers and helping patients! It can be difficult at times but the work is so rewarding that it makes it worth it! Awesome mission and values!

Nice structure to set up clinics. Go through managers like I go through paper towels

Brutal treatment of middle managers. Do value patients, do not seem to value employees. There is a sign in each clinic basically asking for people to report employees. I understand they want patients treated well. I do too. But that method creates a culture where employees feel mistrusted and not valued.

We actually help patients and can do so because we work in a supportive atmosphere free from drama and hostility

Crossroads pays decent and helps with recertification fees. The staff is great and the patients are nice I can’t think of one staff that has not attempted to assist when needed.

No stability, No bridge between Corp. and center

Excellent Idea about culture but it is NOT practiced at levels above the Centers. High staff attrition directly related to absence of onboard training, follow up training and updated training. The computer system in use makes double work a necessity.
