Cabin reservations for stays up to July 31, 2022, may be made online at reserveohio.com or by calling (866) 644-6727. Cabin reservations for August 1, 2022 and beyond are managed by Great Ohio Lodges, 1 (800) AT A PARK (800-282-7275), in anticipation of the opening of Hocking Hills Lodge.

Why did Hocking Hills close?

According to Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) freezing and thawing in the area have left a thick coating of ice at Hocking Hills. Local first responders consulted with ODNR about the decision to close the park, saying they could no longer safely provide rescue if someone were to fall.

Does Hocking Hills Campground have water hookups?

Water spigot available in the parking area and pit latrines are located throughout the campground. Pets are permitted on all sites. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table.

Most cell phone services are not available at the park and in remote areas of Hocking and Vinton County. There is WIFI access at the Visitor Center.

Is there bears in Hocking Hills Ohio?

Bear sightings in the eastern half of Ohio have increased but they are still quite rare. Your chances of encountering a bear in Hocking Hills are pretty low and you can explore the area alone and unarmed safely. Just be aware of your surroundings and if you see a bear, back away slowly.

Does Hocking Hills State Park have a swimming pool?

Access is off State Route 374 via a 1/2-mile hiking trail. The swimming pool outside the dining lodge is free to cottage guests 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, Memorial Day to Labor Day, and open to the general public for a small daily fee.

The most prevalent species you will see are white-tailed deer, barred owls, ruffed grouse, and even bobcats. If you are fishing, you'll come across underwater wildlife such as smallmouth bass, channel catfish, white crappie, quillback, saugeye, and more.

What trees are in Hocking Hills?

Hemlock, beech, black birch, red and sugar maples, yellow poplar, white ash, red oak, basswood and hickories grow in cool gorges, moist coves and on slopes. Flowers, shrubs and ferns commonly associated with these site conditions also abound.

Can you hunt at Hocking Hills State Park?

Hunting is not permitted on the nature preserves or Hocking Hills State Park. Shooting is prohibited within 400 feet of any building, facility, or recreation area and from or across any road or driveway.

Is the loop at 165 172 quiet?

If you are looking for a quieter experience, the loop with sites 165-172 was nice as the sites were had some spacing between and nice shade trees. The loop with sites 141-151 at the far end of the campground was also quieter. Both of these loops are electric only.

Is Hocking Hills State Park worth the drive?

As others have stated, the road from the entrance to the campground is curvy, hilly, and has no shoulder, making it a bit more challenging for larger rigs, but doable and shouldn't be a deterrent. The park is quite beautiful and worth the drive.
