Can I have sex a week after gonorrhea treatment?
Your partner(s) also must get treated for gonorrhea so you don't re-infect each other or anyone else. If you only have 1 dose of medicine, wait until a week after you take it to have sex. If you're taking medicine for 7 days, don't have sex until you've finished all of your pills.
Why can't you have sex for 7 days after gonorrhea treatment?
It takes 7 days for the medicine to work in your body and cure gonorrhea. If you have sex without a condom during the 7 days after taking the medicine, you could still pass the infection to your sex partners, even if you have no symptoms.
How do you know when gonorrhea is clearing up?
If you have any symptoms of gonorrhoea, these will usually improve within a few days, although it may take up to 2 weeks for any pain in your pelvis or testicles to disappear completely. Bleeding between periods or heavy periods should improve by the time of your next period.
How do you know gonorrhea is cured?
A test-of-cure – follow-up testing to be sure the infection was treated successfully – is not needed for genital and rectal infections; however, if a person's symptoms continue for more than a few days after receiving treatment, he or she should return to a health care provider to be reevaluated.
