As the lamp ages, its performance diminishes and its ability to output the proper UV energy reaches an end. Finally a process called solarization of the quartz sleeve can cause interference. Over time, the UV light can cause the quartz sleeve to become less transparent. Although the frequency of replacement varies by manufacturer, typically the sleeve is replaced proactively every 3-5 years.
