Full Answer

Value-Added Processing

Originally constructed in 1962, South Cross Bayou Water Reclamation Facility (SCBWRF) is Pinellas County’s largest wastewater treatment facility. The facility distributes an average of 33 million gallons per day (MGD) of reclaimed wastewater to residential and commercial customers while also processing the County’s biosolids.

More Efficient Dewatering

Integrating the latest technology into SCBWRF will create a value-added resource recovery process for the county, offsetting energy usage and stretching ratepayer dollars.

Sustainably Efficient

As part of the project, the County asked Gresham Smith for a review of the facility’s overall solids processes. We are reviewing energy and chemical requirements and usage in order to verify energy efficiency goals are met and as well as identifying areas to implement future sustainable design features that align with Envision™.

About Reclaimed Water

Wastewater does not come from the water used to water the grass, fill the swimming pool, wash the dog, or wash the car. Wastewater is not stormwater run-off; this is collected in a separate stormwater drainage system.
