What is RayStation breast planning?
The automated breast planning solution in RayStation is the first step in our journey to automate routine and standard procedures. RayAutoBreast was initially developed in Toronto, Canada. Between 2009 and 2012, clinicians at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) ran a large-scale clinical study to evaluate the performance of automated treatment planning for intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for tangential breast treatments. They concluded that it could add tremendous degrees of efficiency and standardization, as well as quality to current treatment planning processes. The use of automated procedures will allow for faster adoption of IMRT together with increased access to care improvements for breast cancer patients [1].
How does Raystation work?
RayStation automates parts of the treatment planning process with support for tools such as templates and plan-generation protocols. These are the steps in the planning process which can be automated, such as using atlas-based segmentation, creating plans, setting dose grid resolution, adding beams and optimization functions or settings. Protocols create plans automatically, which drastically reduces planning time.
How does fallback planning work?
Fallback planning use s a dose mimicking function to replicate the DVHs of a given plan, but for a different machine or treatment modality.
What is Plan Explorer?
Plan explorer is based on the capability to automatically generate a large number of treatment plans for defined clinical goals and combinations of treatment techniques and machines. It also provides efficient means to filter and browse among plan candidates to find the most desired one. In addition, the plan candidates can be generated using machine learning models which also enables automatically generating several plans from one model with different tradeoff priorities.
What is raystation treatment?
Because RayStation is a complete treatment planning system that supports many different modalities, planning of proton treatments in conjunction with photons is possible . The fallback planning module also enables proton plans to be converted into photon plans, ensuring there is no interruption in treatment.

Based on the daily images, an updated treatment plan can be automatically suggested to the care team at the time of a treatment session. A plan adaptation that takes the patient’s current situation into account can thus be made before treatment delivery starts.

It addresses the demand for a treatment control system that is compatible with multiple hardware models and supports the advanced functionalities of newer, more modern treatment machines and software systems.
What is a TCS?
The idea to develop a TCS resulted from a collaboration agreement between RaySearch and AVO to develop a comprehensive software solution for the proton therapy system AVO LIGHT. This sparked a great deal of interest from other industrial and clinical partners as well. One of them is MedAustron, specializing in particle therapy and research. They have decided to go with a truly integrated solution with the RayStation treatment planning system, RayCare oncology information system and RayCommand treatment control system. RayCommand acts as a link between the treatment machine and the treatment planning and oncology information systems. It coordinates and orchestrates the different systems involved, such as the imaging systems, the beam delivery system and the patient support system.
Is Raycommand compatible with particle therapy?
As a first step RayCommand is applicable only for particle therapy but will also support photon therapy in the future.
Is particle therapy sensitive to changes?
