What is MeRT treatment for?

What is MeRT? MeRT is a completely non-surgical, non-invasive, and drug-free treatment for illnesses like depression. Simply put, it can reprogram your brain's neurochemistry to address underactive or overactive parts of the brain that can cause unwanted psychological symptoms.

How much does MeRT treatment cost?

The treatment itself costs about $200-300 per daily session. That's 3,000-5,000 magnetic pulses over a period of about 20 minutes. Multiply the cost by five sessions a week (with weekends off) for 4 to 6 weeks, and the price tag ranges from about $5,000-$10,000.

How long does MeRT treatment last?

MeRT treatments are usually anywhere from 6 – 8 weeks, however in some cases, additional treatment time is recommended for optimal results. Each individual is different, and protocols may vary. Your provider will have regularly scheduled follow-up EEGs and meet with you to gauge your progress.

Does MeRT treatment work?

MeRT Treatment protocols have seen some incredible success in improving conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries and Concussions, Depression, Anxiety, Sleep Disorders, and many more.

Can MeRT cure autism?

MeRT and Autism MeRT is an effective treatment for those with autism who are five years or older. It's been approved by the FDA in the treatment of a range of brain disorders and has shown significant and long-term improvement for symptoms of autism spectrum disorder.

What is the difference between TMS and MeRT?

MeRT is a unique and improved version of TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation), and is a much more individualized approach to brain modulation, and is tailored to the patient's needs based on frequency, location, and power used.

Currently, MeRT is FDA approved to treat Major Depressive Disorder. Treatment for all other conditions is considered “off label” at this time, although we anticipate FDA approval soon for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Who should not do TMS?

Patients less than 18 years of age or older than 68 years of age. Patients with a history of substance abuse. Patients with a psychotic disorder, such as schizophrenic disorder, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disease, or major depression with psychotic features.

Is MeRT same as neurofeedback?

How are TMS and neurofeedback different? TMS uses magnets and is primarily applied to treat depression. Neurofeedback employs feedback to help you learn to stimulate or change your brain. Neurofeedback can be applied to a wider variety of brain-based conditions (see more below).

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

The most effective interventions available are behavioral therapies based on applied behavioral analysis (ABA). There are many different types of ABA to choose from based on your child's strengths and needs.

Can TMS damage your brain?

No. TMS doesn't cause brain damage. This is assuming that all the screening measures are taken and there are no contraindications to the magnetic treatment (no ferromagnetic metals in the brain).

What is a MERT?

MeRT is an acronym for Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy. And, it combines the power of TMS with other protocols to target specific areas of the brain with magnetic stimulation and electrical stimulation.

What is a rTMS?

rTMS therapy is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic induction coils placed along one’s scalp to stimulate specific areas of the brain. It can be used to increase activity in underactive parts of the brain. And it can be used to decrease overactive parts of the brain as well.

Is a syringe FDA approved?

It is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. And while it is not yet FDA-approved for other mental disorders, we are continuously finding more evidence that it may be used to effectively treat other illnesses.

Is MeRT a drug?

MeRT is a completely non-surgical, non-invasive, and drug-free treatment for illnesses like depression. Simply put, it can reprogram your brain’s neurochemistry to address underactive or overactive parts of the brain that can cause unwanted psychological symptoms.

Your Brain and MeRT

Your brain is a marvel—it contains approximately 100 billion nerve cells (neurons). These nerve cells communicate via brainwaves on specific pathways in the brain. Additionally, the more often a pathway is used, the stronger it gets.

The 3 Components of MeRT

MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, is customized for each patient. Specifically, this cutting-edge treatment uses the combined technologies of:

The Steps of MeRT Treatment

On your first appointment, we perform the qEEG and EKG tests right in our office. Then, once we complete the tests, we can then analyze the results to see exactly how your brain is functioning.

Your Brain is a Wonderous Thing!

You are probably familiar with the fact that the brain is composed of approximately 100 billion neurons. It’s interesting because the brain works through populations of neurons interacting with each other. One of the ways that they interact is through tiny electrical oscillations or brain waves.

What is MeRT?

The quality of behavior between your neurons can be disrupted by many things; you may have a:

The MeRT Platform

Through the measurement and analysis of your brainwave activity, we identify disruptions to your brain network and build treatment parameters specifically tailored to your needs. In most cases we can visibly reshape brainwave activity, regardless of what may have caused the disruption to begin with.

MeRT Approach

By combining our deep expertise in neuroscience with machine learning analysis we can decode and classify functional indicators in the brain that can be changed by using individualized treatment tools.

What is MeRT and How Does it Work?

MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy is an emerging treatment protocol that uses the combined technologies of rTMS ( Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation ), qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram, and EKG (Electrocardiogram) to tailor treatment protocols to each person’s unique brain wave patterns.

The Four Steps to MeRT

First, we will perform a q-EEG and an EKG. These diagnostic tests are used to determine the frequencies in the brain and the brain-heart coherence. Once this has been done, our scientists and physicians will interpret and analyze the results to determine the exact function of the brain.

What to Expect

We understand that MeRT is a relatively new, cutting-edge treatment and you may not be certain if this is right for your situation. But this is not a decision that needs to be made right away or all alone.

MeRT: A Unique Process that Targets Your Unique Brain

No two brains are exactly alike; your brain’s electrical activity, brain waves, and thought patterns are unlike anyone else’s. What makes the MeRT process unique is that the treatment protocol is customized for each patient.

How MeRT Differs from TMS Treatment

TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is the process of using a magnetic coil on the scalp to reorganize the brain’s signals and pathways. In and of itself, TMS is more of a “one-size-fits-all” approach to treatment. Most TMS treatments are used to deliver stimulation to one brain area at a fixed frequency for all patients.

How we use the qEEg in MeRT Treatment

A standard EEG (electroencephalogram) records electrical activity and brainwaves, which show the underlying brain activity. The qEEG (qualitative electroencephalogram) applies state-of-the-art mathematical and statistical analysis to the brainwaves.
