Background

Since Bopp et al.

Implementation model for centralized treatment programming

So how did MMHI's program get where it is today and what role did the discipline of Mental Health Nursing play in the process? It is important to stress that the successful development of any centralized treatment mall is dependent on all disciplines embracing the concept and becoming involved in the planning, development, implementation, and ongoing operations of the mall.

Discussion

MMHI's mall has been in operation for 8 years. Throughout these 8 years, there have been many modifications to the original program and design. The hospital, itself, has moved to a new facility and downsized. Therefore, it would not make sense to compare the MMHI program now with that of 2001 when TLC was established.

Conclusion

Transforming a unit-based treatment program to a centralized treatment program focused on rehabilitation and recovery is a huge task for any institution. Not only does the program content need to be developed, but also, the system in which care and treatment is delivered needs to be overhauled.

Abstract

The Treatment Mall is a model of inpatient psychosocial treatment provided to adults with severe mental illness to deliver recovery-oriented, evidenced-based treatment and has been implemented in state mental hospitals across the United States.
