When you first arrive at the facility, you’ll be given a medical evaluation to determine your needs. Within 48 hours you’ll also receive a psychological evaluation. Treatment often begins with medical detox, in which patients are monitored 24/7 to ensure they withdraw as safely and comfortably as possible.

Do You Allow Phone Calls?

River Oaks allows patients access to their cell phones and technology during assigned times outside of groups and activities. The time allotted to use these devices increases as your loved one progresses through treatment. At the start, communication will be limited to specific times during the mornings and evenings.

Can I Bring Gifts or Items to My Loved One?

Yes, you may bring gifts to the facility, but please do not bring any outside food or drinks of any kind.

What Is My Role?

More than anything, the role of a family member in a loved one’s addiction treatment is to support them in their recovery. Your loved one will benefit from knowing you support them in seeking help for their addiction.

We offer virtual training seminars for family with loved ones in recovery. All sessions are at 1:30pm EST on Saturdays. Each session runs around 1-1.5 hours.

What is River Oaks?

River Oaks is a beautiful, calming environment for your substance use treatment and therapy. When you – or your loved one – arrives, you’ll find a team of compassionate caregivers who will offer an onsite drug and alcohol intake assessment before starting treatment.

Can River Oaks transport you to rehab?

Yes, someone from River Oaks can transport you to our facility. This rehab transportation service is available for inpatient services and some outpatient services. You'll need to work out your travel plans, specifically your arrival times, with us so that we can make sure we pick you up on time.

Do addiction centers accept Medicare?

In short, we take different types of private insurance plans and you can pay out of pocket. For the most part, American Addiction Centers’ facilities don’t accept Medicaid or Medicare. However, we can set up a payment plan for you to make addiction treatment easier to pay for in the long run.

What to Expect When Traveling for Rehab

At River Oaks, admissions navigators (that can be reached at 813-551-3608) can help you coordinate a flight to Tampa International Airport. They’ll also arrange for someone to pick you up from the airport and take you to the facility.

How long should you wash your hands with alcohol?

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing: If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

How to avoid getting sick?

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Stay home when you are sick and stay away from others if you are sick. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean and disinfect frequently touches objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

What happens if you wait to get help?

If you wait to get help, you might lose your job due to the ramifications of your drug or alcohol use. If you get help now, you can come back to work healthier and perform better. If you’re currently unemployed or furloughed, this the perfect time to get treatment.

Does quarantine affect mental health?

The stress and isolation of living in quarantine may only worsen your substance use and any mental health symptoms from which you’re suffering. At River Oaks, we are taking rigorous measures to limit any exposure to the virus while providing the lifesaving treatment you need.

Can I get behavioral health care at home?

Yes! Accessing behavioral healthcare is an “essential” activity, which means you’re allowed to leave your home to get treatment when you need it, even if you’re practicing social distancing or obeying shelter-in-place orders.

Can you quarantine if you have a positive screen?

Any symptoms of illness. Those who screen positive will not be admitted to treatment. Those who screen negative will be eligible for admission. Updated CDC guidelines advise that patients who have been vaccinated may not have to quarantine upon admission.

Accommodations at River Oaks is made up of semi-private, hotel-like rooms with private bathrooms with 86 beds for residential and detox housing, separated by gender. Private rooms are available for an additional fee; and all rooms come with 2 full-sized beds and private bathrooms .

Alcohol.org is a subsidiary of American Addiction Centers (AAC), a leading provider of addiction treatment services across the U.S. By filling out and submitting this form, you will receive instant results confirming if your insurance provider is actively covering addiction related services and treatments or not. You will be notified by our admission navigators if your insurance is in network with AAC.
