Who should not use Inspire for sleep apnea?

For example, Inspire therapy is not intended for patients with a complete concentric collapse at the level of the soft palate, or those in whom central and mixed apneas make up 25% or more of their apnea-hypopnea index. Patients who require MRI should discuss Inspire therapy with their doctor.

Who Cannot use inspire?

The Inspire® UAS system should not be used for the following: Types of apnea (central and mixed) other than obstructive are more than 25% of the total AHI. Any physical finding that would compromise the performance of upper airway stimulation, such as the presence of complete blockage of the upper airway.

Does inspire work for people with severe sleep apnea?

Inspire is only for treating obstructive sleep apnea; it will not treat central sleep apnea. It is approved to treat mixed sleep apnea, as long as central sleep apnea does not account for more than 25% of events.

Can you use Inspire for sleep apnea if you have a pacemaker?

Your Inspire therapy doctor will do a full evaluation of your sleep apnea history and overall health, including cardiovascular function. Having a pacemaker does not disqualify you from this unique therapy.

Do I qualify for Inspire sleep?

You are eligible for Inspire Sleep Surgery if: You have moderate to severe OSA with a diagnostic sleep study in the past 2 years. You tried CPAP therapy and it didn't work. You do not have significant trouble falling asleep. You have a body mass index (BMI) of 32-35 or less.

What are the dangers of Inspire?

The most common side effects associated with treatment are tongue abrasion, mouth dryness, and discomfort stemming from the nerve stimulator. In rare cases, some people experience muscle atrophy and partial tongue paralysis. Your doctor can fine-tune your device's settings to help alleviate these side effects.

What is the success rate of Inspire?

The procedure has obtained a surgical success rate of 72.4% (Inspire), 76.9% (ImThera), 55% (Apnex) at 12 months, and 75% (Inspire) at 60-month follow-up.

Can Inspire be removed?

Inspire 002 Inspire therapy may not work for everyone. Your doctor may need to take additional steps to address your sleep apnea. There are additional risks associated with removing your system. If you and your doctor decide to remove the system, another surgery will be required.

Does inspire sleep apnea stop snoring?

Data indicates that the Inspire device eliminates sleep apnea or significantly reduces snoring and daytime sleepiness.

What is the recovery time for Inspire?

Some pain and swelling at the incision site for a few days after the implant are expected. You may also experience temporary numbness or weakness of the right side of the tongue. You should avoid strenuous activities for about two weeks or as directed by your doctor.

Can you have an MRI with Inspire sleep apnea?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging – Patients with Inspire Model 3024 should not undergo MRI as it can cause tissue damage as well as damage to the Inspire system and components. Patients with Inspire Model 3028 can undergo MRI on the head and extremities if certain conditions and precautions are met.

Can you get an MRI if you have the Inspire?

If your patient has the Inspire Generator Model 3024, they are not eligible for MRI scans. However, they are eligible to have CT scans, X-Rays and ultrasound images taken anywhere in the body.
