What is after treatment process?

What is an aftertreatment system? An aftertreatment system is a method or device for reducing harmful exhaust emissions from internal-combustion engines. In other words, it is a device that cleans exhaust gases to ensure the engines meet emission regulations.

What is after treatment control module?

The Aftertreatment Control Module cleans the diesel exhaust created by the engine before it is released into the air through the tailpipe to reduce the number of pollutants that enter the environment.

What is the function of each component in after treatment system?

Generally speaking, the heavy duty diesel engine aftertreatment system has two primary components: the exhaust aftertreatment technology — which includes the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) — to reduce and mitigate PM; and a select catalytic reduction (SCR) system to reduce NOx ...

What is the sequence of after treatment components that the diesel exhaust passes before exiting the system into the atmosphere?

The DPF comes after the DOC in the exhaust aftertreatment system. The DPF removes most of the particles (more than 99 %) from the exhaust gases. The exhaust gases pass through the filter, which collects particles from the gases. The particles eventually turn into a soot cake.

How does diesel after treatment work?

Instead, diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems reduce pollutants after they have been produced. The exhaust enters the diesel oxidizing catalyst (DOC) where HC and CO emission levels are reduced. This oxidizing process is similar to what occurred in the two-way catalysts on gas-powered cars of the mid-1970s.

What are the signs of DPF failure?

What Are The Signs Of A Blocked DPF?You feel a loss of power in your engine (limp mode). The DPF light will appear on your dashboard.Passive and active regeneration keep failing.A pungent smell of diesel.Automatic Stop-Start System Not Working.Your car seems to be releasing an excessive amount of smoke.More items...•

How does Cummins SCR work?

The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system is an advanced exhaust after treatment system to reduce NOx. The engine controls the production of PM by increasing the combustion temperature thus limiting it within the permissible value.

What is DOC and DPF?

The exhaust aftertreatment devices that are applied to vehicles are Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOC), Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalysts.

How does the SCR system work?

An SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system is a system installed on diesel vehicles to reduce harmful Nitrous Oxide (NOx) emissions. It works by injecting an automotive grade urea, or Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) through a specially designed catalyst, into the exhaust stream of a diesel engine.

What are the components of after treatment system in BS IV vehicle?

aftertreatment system consists of a fuel dosing system, mixing elements, fuel reformer, LNT, diesel particulate filter (DPF), and SCR catalyst arranged in series.

What does Doc stand for in exhaust?

Abstract: In most stand-alone applications, the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) is used to control diesel particulate emissions through the control of their organic fraction (OF). In some cases, the catalyst is also required to control CO and HC emissions.

How does a DPF regenerate?

DPF active regeneration Active regeneration happens when extra fuel is injected automatically as the filter reaches an approximately 45% full limit. The extra fuel raises the temperature of the exhaust and burns off the stored soot. Yet the journey has to be long enough to complete a full cycle.

Hey all happy new years! Looking for an old iron expert here i dont got the cummins insite just the Snap on pro ultra crap tool it works on all our trucks for clearing codes and connecting to modules except this one and trying to figure out why and got no help, so here it goes firstly we were having a starting a problem with one of our t800 kenworth roll off truck its got a 2012 cummins isx basically it wasn't starting one morning and the rookie know it all mechanic hooked up a 24v forklift to the dam thing and let it charge for about a minute and started it no problem as he said and the driver took it, now the driver said the check engine light on about an hour after and got worried and now the problem begins, And so now when i hook up my scan tool i get no ecms detected and it also supposed to charge off the j1939 connection port and its not even doing that so i thought a fuse was blown so i checked the fuses underneath the floor panel d/s and there all dang good any other places to look for i really hope we wont have to take this to the dealer.

Check for power and ground at your 9 pin. Then with the key off check for 60ohms at the 1939 pins c&d

Yes everything else is working the truck starts fine now as we replaced battery connections also installed them battery warmers and there looking good,, also if that fuse blew i wouldnt be able to start the truck if i recall blowing it one time.

Post VIN and we will confirm your fuse to diagnostic connector. By the way, if you have read much in Garage forum you will find Pushbroom is a very experienced tehnician will lots of very knowledgeable posts. He was just trying to cover bases. What did DMM say with readings he posted earlier at diag connector so we can help you out.

More experinced input like a diagram stating exactly what pins to test in your connector?? No idea where your gonna get help like that around here.....
