You’ll need the software, a measurement microphone and your monitor’s set-up in their intended position. After measuring the room you will be presented with a series of charts. They will display the RT60 of all eight main frequency bands within the room. You can use this data to find out which frequency bands you will need to treat.

Where should I place the Master Set in my room?
NOTE: Master Set works best if done along the long wall of the listening room, as that best mitigates room reflections, however it can be done along the short wall if necessary. For the first DIY attempt, try and use the long wall.

What is the 38% rule?
The placement method used here is based on the "38 percent rule" which theorizes that the best listening position is 38 percent into the length of the room, when measured from either the front or rear wall. This offers the best compromise of peaks versus nulls for any given room size.

Can you overdo acoustic treatment?
Even if you are successful in reducing the RT evenly across the frequency spectrum, using too much can lead to a room not sounding 'lively' enough and sounding unnatural. This will mean you'll likely be spending time adding artificial reverberation to sounds that you record in your studio.
What is the ideal listening position?
The ideal listening position is 38% into the length of the room, centered between the left and right walls. However, this distance will vary from room to room, depending on the layout. For most home studios, it's best to find your listening position before you determine where to place your monitors.

Understanding your Space
The first and most crucial decision you’ll need to make is deciding what your aim is for your space. If you’re trying to create a truly live recording space, you’re going to need to worry about acoustic room treatment far less as you’ll only need to deal with any unpleasant frequency build-ups or strange reflections.
Reverberation Times
The first thing we need to understand is reverberation times. Reverberation measured within a space is often calculated using a waterfall response chart to generate an RT60. Without going into too much detail, the RT60 is the time it takes for any sound source to reduce by 60dB. From now on, I will refer to reverberation as RT60.
Acoustic Room Treatment
There are two main things you will need in acoustic room treatment. Forms of absorption and forms of diffusion. We use absorption when our RT60 is above the desired range in order to minimize reflections within that frequency band.
Modal Response in Acoustic Room Treatment
Now that we’ve looked at the RT60 of your room, we need to look at dealing with the modal response. Standing waves can be a huge problem in small home studio spaces as they create dips/boosts in the low end. Without dealing with this issue, your mixes could end up sounding massively underwhelming in other environments.

Keep accessories equally reflective and simple, such as glass lamp bases and vases.

Do room dividers work?
For compact urban homes, room dividers work brilliantly, especially those that incorporate unobtrusive, stylish full-height storage to create different sleeping and living areas without blocking natural light. How to acoustically treat a room?
There are two techniques to acoustically treat a room. The first of them, absorption, is used to actively remove reflections and deaden a room. The problem with just using absorption is that it can sometimes make a room sound uncomfortably dead. This is where diffusion comes along.
What is soundproofing in a room?
Before we go into too much detail about acoustics, it’s important to note the difference between soundproofing and treatment.#N#Soundproofing is the act of isolating one environment or room from another. Soundproofing a room would involve, for example, blocking any gaps going in/out of the room with heavy, dense material and sealing any openings that would allow sound to leave the room. The benefit of this is the ability to record sounds or listen to music in the room without any of the noise bleeding out into potential neighbors or roommates houses/rooms (and making sure no sound comes in).#N#Acoustic room treatment, on the other hand, aims to control the sound reflections in a room in order to allow for better recordings and mixes.#N#Both of these are extremely valuable, but neither one does the job of the other. It’s important to be able to distinguish between both in order to know what you need to buy in order to complete your home studio.
Does treating your room have to be expensive?
Treating your room doesn’t have to be an expensive journey! And if you haven’t done so yet, you’re bound to hear the difference immediately. Research which path is the right one for you, and take the time to feel out how each new panel helps to improve the quality of sound sources in your home studio.
Is a diffuser more important than an absorption panel?
Maybe it’s because they look cool, with all of their weird shapes and jagged edges?#N#The fact of the matter is that, while diffusers do greatly help the sound of a room, they don’ t do nearly as much as absorption panels do.#N#Diffusion material is often extremely expensive, and while there are some “more” affordable options for diffusion panels, if you’re running on an extremely tight budget, you may want to hold off until you have all of your absorption needs covered.
What is needed to master set?
The only items needed to perform Master Set are your ears , a setup recording, a tape .measure, and a small level. Master Set can be performed by one or two persons.
What is master set in audio?
Master Set is based on the idea of the placement relationship of the two speakers with each other in regards to sound pressure level from each speaker into the listening room. The idea is to "anchor" one speaker on one side of the listening room, and then to match the other speaker's sound pressure level with that of the "anchor".
How to adjust a speaker to match the sound pressure?
This step will move the other speaker into place and be adjusted to match the sound pressure of the "anchor" speaker. Move the speaker out from the wall about 6 inches, toeing the speaker directly in to the listening position. Now begin moving the speaker out at very small increments, no more than 1/8th in. or 2-3 mm. at a time, and only listen to the bass line. Continue to move the speaker out at these small increments until you hear a lessening of the bass resonances. Once you find a lessening in the bass make a small movement or two of 1/16th in, or 1-2 mm. and listen for the best response. You will also tend to notice that all of the music tends to smooth out and become much more clean and clear sounding as the two speakers equalize.
Is Master Set free?
The best part of Master Set is that it is virtually free. It merely requires a setup song and your time. Even if you do not understand anything I have written, or fail to believe any of it, it will cost you virtually nothing in order to try it. It's worth a go! And then you can evaluate the results. Lastly, words simply do not describe the improvement to the sound of a music system from setting up the speakers with Master Set.!!!!!
