Plant location. Package treatment plants contain and process a material that is a potential health hazard. Care should be exercised in locating the plant so there is little danger of contaminating any public or private water supply. Plants should not be located within 10 feet of any building foundation, property line or pressurized water line.

What are the parts of a sewage treatment plant?

Major components of sewage treatment plant includes: bar screens, grit chamber, comminutors, pre-aeration tank, primary settling tank, aeration tank, secondary settling tank, biological filters, sludge handler etc. We customize components of sewage treatment plant as per your plant requirements.

What is aeration tank in sewage treatment plant?

The biological treatment of the wastewater takes place in the aeration tank. Before the wastewater gets to this tank, it is mixed with activated sludge. This contains countless microorganisms, such as bacteria, that are able to break down the colloidal, organic contaminants dissolved in the wastewater.

What is aerobic treatment?

In this process, oxygen-using bacteria attack and break down the organic portions of the sewage into simpler inorganic compounds . Aerobic treatment is preferred because it is rapid and relatively odor free.

What is the final step in sewage treatment?

During this period, aerobic bacteria reduce the sewage into simple compounds. The final step is the settling or clarification chamber. Treated sewage from the aeration process is emptied into this chamber where the heavier solids in the sewage settle.

Why is aerobic treatment preferred over anaerobic treatment?

Aerobic treatment is preferred because it is rapid and relatively odor free. It also provides greater solids reduction. Septic tank systems rely on the anaerobic (without oxygen) breakdown process that is less efficient. It produces the characteristic septic odor.

What is the second phase of anaerobic treatment?

Anaerobic treatment chambers require periodic pumping of sludge. The second phase of the treatment consists of mechanical aeration. Oxygen-containing air is mixed and blended with mixtures of solids and liquid. During this period, aerobic bacteria reduce the sewage into simple compounds.

How do package plants maintain aerobic conditions?

It produces the characteristic septic odor. Package plants maintain aerobic conditions by introducing air into the tank. This can be done in either of two ways. Some manufacturers use an external air compressor to bubble air through the sewage.

How far away from a well should a package treatment plant be located?

Plants should not be located within 10 feet of any building foundation, property line or pressurized water line. They should not be located within 50 feet of a well, water supply or stream. If possible, the treatment system should be located so that sewage can flow into it by gravity.

What is NSF in sanitary?

The National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) has a series of standards for construction and performance of individual aerobic treatment plants. It recommends that you consider only systems that meet or exceed these standards.

What is ASP in sewage treatment?

Activated Sludge Plants (ASP's) are known to suffer when underloaded. They are either blowing the maximum amount of air, when 'on' or none when 'off'. However, the VORTEX™ sewage treatment system has a unique air regulation valve which, by turning down the air supply valve, reduces the air supply to the diffuser. This allows the treatment plant to be 'turned down' to suit lower populations. Below are the EN 12566-3 Test Results for normal 100% flow rate and underloading at 50%.of the flow rate.

What happens when treated sewage enters the final settlement chamber?

When the treated sewage enters the final settlement chamber, activated sludge bacteria settle out at the bottom. These beneficial live microbes are constantly returned to the digestion chamber to mix with the raw sewage and boost the performance of the treatment plant system.

Where does floating sludge accumulate in ASP?

In all ASP sewage treatment systems, floating sludge accumulates at the top of the Clarification Chamber. This sludge must be periodically returned to the Aeration Chamber, manually, with all other ASP type plants. All our Vortex plants are fitted with an Automatic FSR as this makes the process automatic.

Where are beneficial microbes topped up?

These beneficial microbes are constantly topped up with the microbes that settle out at the bottom of the final settlement tank ,as part of the sludge management system, ensuring a constant 'friendly bacteria' supply for the treatment plant process.

Does a tampon cause serious problems?

The VORTEX™ has a unique debris screen - tampons do not cause serious problems for the treatment process, as with other similar sewage plants. Unique SLUDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM - enhances treatment performance and reduces the plant servicing requirements and cost. Has a visual alarm for blower malfunction.

How to build a plant?

A good layout can often be helpful in public acceptance of the project. Consider the following: 1 Locate the plant downwind of residences and other concerned neighbors. 2 Keep some buffer between residences and the nearest plant facility (say 500 ft.). 3 Build odorous facilities farthest from residences (i.e. headworks). 4 Cover and/or house the odor causing facilities, provide necessary ventilation and air scrubbing.

Where is Tillman Water Reclamation Plant located?

A plant located in the Los Angeles area, owned and operated by the city of Los Angeles—the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant—houses a beautiful Japanese Garden on its property (below), which is regularly visited by tourists and has become a sought-after place for holding wedding ceremonies and receptions.

How tall are chemical scrubbers?

The chemicals oxidize hydrogen sulfide and other odorous compounds producing innocuous byproducts. If the owners prefer chemical scrubbers, they usually will be tall (10 to 15 ft.), but can be hidden behind an architecturally designed wall facing the neighbors. In exceptional cases, the wall can have a nice mural painted on it to enhance appearance. [See Figure 1]

Is membrane bioreactor better than activated sludge?

For example, membrane bioreactors (MBR), by virtue of their smaller footprint, may be a better treatment process than conventional activated sludge. In small size plants, with MBRs, it may be possible to eliminate primary clarifiers, which often generate more odors than other processes at the plant.

Should structures be off-set?

This should be avoided. Structures, if possible, should be off-set, rotated, and separated to provide a more open appearance. The bottom line is to be conscious and appreciative of the needs and concerns of the neighbors, and to build facilities that are compatible with their homes and businesses.

Should natural terrain be scarred?

Natural terrain should not be scarred to the extent possible, if the existing terrain is pleasing. Structures built in the project should blend in. Too often, treatment facilities are laid out in straight lines and pushed together, resulting in the appearance of an industrial facility. This should be avoided.

Can a plant degrade a neighborhood?

The plant should not degrade the neighborhood. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. The buildings associated with the project should match the buildings in the surrounding neighborhood—both architecturally and in materials selection. Sometimes, the fencing can be an eye sore.
