But does Kerasal work ? The short answer is yes, Kerasal works as it claims. However, just like what it promises, it cannot cure the nail itself especially if the infection is already severe. It will simply help with the appearance and thickening of the nail. It, however, can help with the prescription treatments by helping the nail soften.

The Good
It really did eliminate EVERY bit of frizz. It was extremely effective, and lasted a long time — I still have no frizz after 7 months.
The Bad
It loosened my curl pattern from a Type 3b to a Type 2b. This will vary depending on the strength of the treatment you choose, and of course it depends on your hair goals. If that is what you are looking for you may see this as a positive. But for me I considered this a big negative.
The Ugly
Success depends on your stylist: The stylist must follow the guidelines and directions for application correctly. I liked this treatment the first time I got it, but the second time I received this treatment the stylist was not adequately prepared.

The expectations
I saw salon co-owner Ali Holmes, at the Wildlife Hair Sogo salon in Sydney's Surry Hills, and she put any concerns at ease - as I was expecting to be overwhelmed by the chemical fumes and stuck in the chair for the rest of the day.
The process
During the treatment my hair was washed and roughly dried off, then covered with the Kerasilk keratin treatment lotion, then dried properly again. Then each section was then straightened with about three swipes of a hair straightener. Then, I was shampooed and conditioned (hello, heavenly head massage), and dried off again.
The after-care
To my surprise, Ali advised me that I could do whatever I wanted to my hair afterwards (including colouring it if I wanted) - but she did recommend that I use the Goldwell range of smoothing haircare products at home to extend the life of the treatment.
The science
So how does this seeming magic happen? According to Goldwell, it's thanks to the KeraShape Technology that 'deeply penetrates the hair's structure' creating 'new keratin bonds... that reshape the hair while evenly smoothing its surface.'
The results
I can't understate HOW SMOOTH my hair was. There's really no other word for it. My cowlicks were gone, and the frizziness vanished. My hair drying time after washing went from 25 minutes to 10, and I honestly haven't touched my hair straightener (unless to add waves) in the three weeks since I've had the treatment...
How long does it last?
The Goldwell Kerasilk Smoothing Treatment lasts three to five months - but up to six sometimes, which is pretty damn good in my opinion. Using the Goldwell products at home helps to extend this time.
Who does it suit?
This treatment really is focused on changing the texture of the hair - rather than straightening curls or waves. Perfect for me - because my issue was my frizz, not hard-to-control curls. Saying that, it could still work for those with curly or wavy hair, if you just wanted to smooth out your strands, and not straighten.
Does Kerasal Work? And How?
As for what it claims about changing the appearance of the infected nails, it does work. However some people use this as the sole treatment for their nail fungal infection.
How To Use Kerasal
Kerasal is very easy to use. Just like the other products you use for the nails that are infected with fungus, you have to first clean and trim them. Whenever you are handling an infected nail, make sure to take the necessary precautions.
Should I Use Kerasal For Nail Fungal Infection?
Kerasal is an effective product for fungal nail infections. However, you have to take note that it doesn’t cure the fungal infection but only improves the appearance of your nails.
How doeskeratin hair straightening work?
Essentially, the high concentrations of keratin seep into the hair and are sealed into the shaft by heat from a flat iron. "Keratin treatments fill in the porosity of your hair, as overly-porous hair causes tangles, frizz, and breakage," hairstylist Abraham Sprinkle explained to InStyle.
How long does a keratin treatment last?
O'Connor told me that the treatment would last for about three to five months. She added that most women who have the treatment year-round will have it done every six months.
But you don't have to completely eliminate the curl, right?
Right. There are two components to the treatment. The first eliminates the frizz (this is called the Shape Medium), and there are two options for the second component: You can either eliminate curl completely (Smooth Intense) or just tame the wave/curl (Smooth Medium).
Does the treatment work on color-treated hair? And on all hair textures and thicknesses?
The treatment has restorative properties, according to O'Connor, so it can actually improve the texture and condition of color treated hair to some extent. Virgin hair — like mine — works best, as it’s able to absorb more of the keratin.
What about formaldehyde?
Unlike a traditional Brazilian blowout, the Kerasilk Control treatment does not — repeat, not — use formaldehyde. That said, is this completely chemical free? No. The keratin formula does have other chemicals in it, though not the kind used to preserve dead animals.
How long does the process take?
That depends on how much hair you have. If you’re #blessed with the kind of heavy, thick mane that results in a ponytail tension headache after two hours in an updo, it will take hours. We’re talking three to four hours from start to finish.
Do I have to avoid water in the days following?
Nope! Following the treatment, O'Connor told me I could even go home and wash my hair if I wanted. Four shampoos in a day felt a bit much for me, but I did take a dip in a pool the following weekend.
What is keratin treatment?
"A keratin treatment is more for smoothing and frizz control compared to a straightening treatment, which is to actually straighten the hair," explains Lordet.
How long does keratin treatment last?
"Keratin treatments can last up to six months, but you may find that it impacts your curl pattern permanently," says Taylor. "To maintain your results, you must use sodium chloride-free hair products. Wrap your hair in a silk or satin scarf (or pillowcase) to keep the moisture locked in your hair, as the treatment can cause your hair to dry out faster."
Does keratin cause hair loss?
Taylor adds, "If you don't take care of the treatment after, it will do more harm to your hair than good. Keratin treatments contribute to hair thinning and excess hair shedding if not cared for properly due to the high heat and chemicals involved.".
Is keratin good for frizzy hair?
Keratin is great for those who have frizzy hair and want long-term straight, smooth hair. If you are looking to bounce between your natural curls and straight hair, this may not be the solution for you.
What is keratin treatment?
The body naturally makes the protein keratin — it’s what hair and nails are made up of. The keratin in these treatments may be derived from wool, feathers, or horns. Certain shampoos and conditioners contain keratin, but you’ll typically get the greatest benefits from a salon treatment done by a professional.
How long does it take to get keratin treatment?
Some hair stylists prefer to blow dry the hair first and apply the treatment to dry hair. They’ll then flat iron the hair in small sections to seal in the treatment. The whole process can take several hours — so bring a book or something quiet to do! If you’re not sure if keratin treatment is right for you, weigh the pros and cons below.
What is keratin smoothing?
Keratin smooths cells that overlap to form hair strands, which means more manageable hair and less frizz. This makes for hair that dries with little frizz and has a glossy, healthy look to it.
How long after keratin treatment can you get hair wet?
You’ll have to wait 3 to 4 days post-keratin treatment to get your hair wet, so if you’re not a person who likes skipping wash day, then this treatment may not be right for you, and some people report a musty smell even after washing. Not recommended for all. It’s also not recommended for pregnant women.
Does keratin make hair more manageable?
More manageable hair. Keratin treatments make hair more manageable, especially if your hair is particularly frizzy or thick. If you constantly heat style your hair, you’ll notice that with a keratin treatment your hair dries more quickly. Some people estimate that keratin cuts their drying time by more than half.
Is it hard to maintain keratin?
Hard to maintain. Washing your hair less and avoiding swimming might make it harder to maintain for some people. The type of water on your hair matters. Swimming in chlorinated or salt water (basically a pool or an ocean) can shorten the life of your keratin treatment.
Does shampoo contain keratin?
Certain shampoos and conditioners contain keratin, but you’ll typically get the greatest benefits from a salon treatment done by a professional. Benefits of getting a professional keratin treatment or doing one at home can include:

The Downsides
- If you want to straighten curly hair, this is not for your. Ditto if you love lots of volume and texture - as I found the treatment made my already straight hair REALLY straight - and without texturising products, especially at the roots, it could look a little flat at the roots. It's also not cheap.
The Cost
- The treatment costs between $250 to $450, depending on the length and thickness of your hair, and the salon you visit. You can find your nearest salon here. - My only question is, why didn't I know about this earlier? Salon co-owner Ali sums it up best, saying "Keratin change peoples lives! That’s why people always do it again, as when it starts to wear off they want t…
