Millions of gallons of wastewater (sewage) are treated at four water reclamation plants to provide safe and reliable wastewater services to the community. Nearly all of Mesa's treated wastewater (effluent) is beneficially reused - increasing resiliency of potable water supplies.

How much water is treated at the Brown Road water treatment plant?

The Brown Road Water Treatment Plant has a treatment capacity of 72-million gallons per day and the Signal Butte Water Treatment Plant has a treatment capacity of 24-million gallons per day. The raw water that feeds into the plants comes from the Central Arizona Project (Colorado River).

The future Central Mesa Reuse Pipeline will send additional effluent to the Gila River Indian Community for beneficial reuses on agriculture in exchange for vital surface water supplies. This reclamation facility has a treatment capacity of 8-million gallons per day.

Where does Mesa Arizona get its water from?

The raw water that feeds into the plants comes from the Central Arizona Project (Colorado River). Raw water from the Salt River Project (Salt and Verde River) is treated at the Val Vista Water Treatment Plant, jointly owned with the City of Phoenix, with Mesa's portion of the treatment capacity being 90-million gallons per day.

Sewer Service

You do not need to contact the City to start or stop sewer service. This will happen automatically when the change of ownership is recorded with the County.

Sewer Rates

There will be no change to the sewer rates for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022. Sewer rate information can be found in the Sewer Service Fees table.

Billing Adjustments

To request an adjustment to your sewer charges, please review the City's Sewer Service Charge Adjustment Policy to see if you qualify. If you qualify for a billing adjustment, you must complete and submit the Adjustment Request Form.
