This medication is used on the skin to treat pre-cancerous and cancerous skin growths.
How long to recover from fluorouracil cream?
To use the cream or solution:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
- Apply enough amount of the medicine to each affected area.
- You may use a glove, nonmetal applicator, or fingers to apply this medicine.
- Do not bandage or otherwise wrap the skin being treated unless directed to do so by your doctor.
What conditions does fluorouracil cream treat?
- severe stomach pain
- bloody diarrhea
- vomiting
- fever
- chills
- severe red skin rash
How long does it take for fluorouracil cream to work?
This usually takes at least 3 to 6 weeks, but may take as long as 10 to 12 weeks. During the first few weeks of treatment, the skin lesions and surrounding areas will feel irritated and look red, swollen, and scaly. This is a sign that fluorouracil is working. Do not stop using fluorouracil unless your doctor has told you to do so.
How long does before fluorouracil start working?
Usually mild, starting 5-6 weeks after start of treatment. May require reductions in the dose of the medication. Serious adverse reactions to Fluorouracil are; chest pain, EKG changes and increases in cardiac enzymes - which may indicate problems with the heart (see Cardiovascular events). These symptoms are very rare but increased for patients with a prior history of heart disease.

What do you put on skin after fluorouracil treatment?
The day after your last Efudex application, begin moisturizing all treated areas with either Vaseline or Aquaphor Healing Ointment (over the counter). Apply frequently every day to keep skin soft.
What should I put on skin after Efudex treatment?
You may apply Aquaphor, Vaseline, or over-the-counter Hydrocortisone ointment to the area treated after applying Efudex.
How do you know when you have used fluorouracil cream long enough?
If you are using fluorouracil to treat actinic or solar keratoses, you should continue using it until the lesions start to peel off. This usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks. However, the lesions may not be completely healed until 1 or 2 months after you stop using fluorouracil.
Can you put Vaseline over fluorouracil?
Once you finish the medication, the area of skin treated will be red and raw. It generally takes about 3-4 weeks for all of the inflammation to resolve. You may use Vaseline or Eucerin cream to soothe the skin.
Can I use moisturizer after applying fluorouracil?
After using fluorouracil cream, wait 2 hours before applying sunscreen or moisturizer to the treated area. Do not use other skin products including creams, lotions, medications, or cosmetics unless instructed by your doctor to do so.
Can you moisturise after Efudix?
After 20 minutes, you can apply moisturisers, sunscreen and/or make-up as part of your usual skin care routine. Efudix can take up to 2 hours to completely absorb into the skin – it is a good idea to apply your evening efudix at least 2-3 hours before bedtime, so it doesn't get rubbed off onto your pillow.
How do I know when to stop fluorouracil?
After continued application, the damaged skin becomes painful and inflamed with a beefy-red appearance with erosions and crusting. At this point, the medication should be stopped.
Is 2 weeks long enough for fluorouracil?

What does your skin look like after using fluorouracil cream?
After five to ten days of treatment, the sun-damaged parts of treated skin become red, scaly and tender. As treatment is continued, sores and crusts may appear. These raw areas result from the destruction of defective skin cells.
Can you use Neosporin after fluorouracil?
One may use Aquaphor Healing ointment, 100% petrolatum or Vaniply Ointment to keep the areas moist and to alleviate discomfort. They may also be used during the healing process. Do not use topical antibiotics such as Neosporin or Polysporin.
What is the erosion stage of fluorouracil treatment?
The skin began to separate and would bleed when it dried after applying Efudex. This is called the erosion phase. In addition to the cracking, some areas of skin turned darker and peeled leaving open, oozing spots. At this stage, wearing any clothing across the area of treatment becomes almost impossible.

I've noticed that people post saying their Doctor recommended various ointments one being Aquaphor. I looked at the ingredients and it had alcohol in it and with the way my face felt I sure as hell wasn't going to put anything with alcohol on my raw face.

Do not use other skin products including creams, lotions, medications, or cosmetics unless instructed by your doctor to do so. Tell your doctor right away if you get sunburned or have skin blisters /redness. This medication must not be used during pregnancy. It may harm an unborn baby.
